Citing the Hurricane Harvey fundraising telethon, Fox has opted to scrub the Sept. 12 premiere of “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.”

“Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and the important fundraising efforts happening on September 12, we have canceled that evening’s planned New York film premiere event for ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle,'” a studio spokesperson said. “To that end, Twentieth Century Fox Film will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere to several of the non-profit groups associated with the telethon.”

The studio still has a number of events and special screenings planned for the spy comedy sequel including a global premiere in London on Sept. 18, a college screening series, an Alamo Drafthouse event, a Poppy Delevigne influencer event and a fan screening event.

Beyonce, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Barbra Streisand, Reese Witherspoon, and Oprah Winfrey are lined up to appear in a one-hour telethon to raise money for Hurricane Harvey relief.

“Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief” will air live at 8 p.m. ET across ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and cabler CMT. Country superstar George Strait will appear on the telecast in concert from the Majestic Theater in San Antonio, Texas. The telecast will originate from the Universal Studios lot, Times Square and Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” opens Sept. 22 and stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Elton John, Channing Tatum and Jeff Bridges.

Fox Cancels ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ New York Premiere Due to Hurricane Harvey Telethon

Twentieth Century Fox has decided to cancel the New York premiere of “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” on September 12 in order to not distract from the multi-network, star-studded telethon happening that same night to raise money for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

“Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and the important fundraising efforts happening on September 12, we have canceled that evening’s planned New York film premiere event for ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle,'” a Twentieth Century Fox Film spokesperson said in a statement. “To that end, Twentieth Century Fox Film will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere to several of the non-profit groups associated with the telethon.”

An individual with knowledge of the studio’s plans said there are still several events and special screenings planned for “Kingsman,” including the film’s September 18 global premiere in London, a college screening series, an Alamo Drafthouse event, a Poppy Delevigne influencer event in New York and a fan screening event.

However, the studio did not want to get in the way of a telethon airing across the four major broadcast networks and cable channel CMT, featuring the likes of George Clooney, Beyonce, Oprah Winfrey, Julia Roberts and country legend George Strait.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” is set to hit theaters September 22.

'Kingsman' New York Premiere Canceled Due to Hurricane Harvey Telethon

Fox will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere.

Fox has canceled the New York premiere for the spy sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle in light of Hurricane Harvey.

The studio says it does not want to detract attention from a multi-network telethon slated for the same night, Sept. 12, to raise funds for Hurricane Harvey victims.

"Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and the important fundraising efforts happening on September 12, we have canceled that evening's planned New York film premiere event for Kingsman: The Golden Circle," a Twentieth Century Fox Film spokesperson said. "To that end, Twentieth Century Fox Film will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere to several of the non-profit groups associated with the telethon.”

The film, a follow-up to 2014's hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, is still scheduled to have its global premiere later this month in London.

Meanwhile, the Hurricane Harvey telethon is set to broadcast across ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and CMT at 8 p.m. ET on Sept. 12 and will feature stars such as George Clooney, Beyonce, Oprah Winfrey, Barbra Streisand and Reese Witherspoon.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in theaters Sept. 22.

KINGSMAN 2 WILL TAKE THE FRANCHISE IN UNPREDICTABLE EMOTIONAL DIRECTIONS

Following up on the surprisingly entertaining twists and turns of KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE will be no small task, but KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE co-writer Jane Goldman is confident that the upcoming sequel will give us more of what we want, all while remaining fresh, interesting, and unpredictable. Jane Goldman recently chatted with Den of Geek, where she said that the KINGSMAN franchise will "surprising and consistently go in directions you didn't expect, both in terms of the characters’ emotional journeys and in terms of the kind of outrageous, absurd, or surprising kind of action that you see." Goldman continued:

"The main thing is we want to continue to be unpredictable. So the story goes through some very unpredictable emotional directions, and also you have the moments of absurdity that I hope will leave audiences surprised and delighted. It's more outrageous than the first one, but it's certainly not about ‘Oh, we have to be more gory, or more intense.’ There are some amazing action sequences that hopefully they'll be surprising in ways audiences weren't expecting to be surprised."

I wasn't entirely certain as to what I'd be in for with Matthew Vaughn's first KINGSMAN flick, but it seems to get more enjoyable each and every time I watch it. This leaves KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE with some big shoes to fill, but I'm hopeful that the upcoming sequel will be able to live up to its predecessor, and perhaps even surpass it. I should really rein in my hype. It's probably a safe bet to say that THE GOLDEN CIRCLE will do well at the box-office, and Jane Goldman says that there's "definitely been conversation[s]" about another sequel. Yes please.

Would anyone like to venture a guess as to what some of these "unpredictable" moments will be? Will Harry Hart (Colin Firth) become a robot? Maybe Merlin (Mark Strong) gets a cellphone? Or, now that I think about it, has Eggsy (Taron Egerton) ever owned a bear?

The official synopsis for KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE:

Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE will hit theaters on September 22nd.

Fox Cancels Kingsman 2 NYC Premiere, Donating Funds to Harvey Relief

20th Century Fox has opted to cancel the planned  Kingsman: The Golden Circle premiere in New York City and instead stand in solidarity with the rest of the country by donating the allotted funds for the affair to those who were badly affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas. The event, which was scheduled on September 12, coincides with the Hurricane Harvey fundraising telethon. The follow-up movie is set to hit theaters the week after on September 22.

The Golden Circle will see the return of now British pro-spy Eggsy (Taron Egerton) as he deals with another saving the world situation. Unfortunately, due to the current predicament that the Kingsman organization find themselves in, code-named Galahad travels across the pond and reaches out to their Stateside allies dubbed the Statesman headed by Champagne (Jeff Bridges). Together, the two underground organization work to crack the secret identity of the new group called the Golden Circle which kooky businesswoman and film villain, Poppy (Julianne Moore) is supposed to be a part of.

In an article by Variety, it was reported that Fox decided to scrub the event in response to the catastrophe brought about by the hurricane. The announcement came via a studio spokesperson telling the news agency:

“Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and the important fundraising efforts happening on September 12, we have canceled that evening’s planned New York film premiere event for ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle.’ To that end, Twentieth Century Fox Film will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere to several of the non-profit groups associated with the telethon.”

Other events with regard to promoting the film still hold up, however, including the global premiere set in London on Sept. 18, several college screening series, an Alamo Drafthouse event, as well as a Poppy Delevigne fan screening event. Additionally, fans can expect the stars to appear in various interviews and press meetings to market the much-anticipated spy-comedy sequel.

Directed again by Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Golden Circle marks the British filmmaker’s first time to direct a sequel. Vaughn was notoriously known to pass-up on follow-up films but for some reason, he chose to stick with this franchise, which could be an indication that he is pretty confident it will once again knock everyone off of their feet just like the original film.

The Touching Reason Kingsman: The Golden Circle Cancelled Its Premiere

Premieres for big movies occasionally get cancelled for a variety of reasons. Regardless, when Kingsman 2 recently cancelled its premiere it wasn't following a terrorist attack or done to avoid further controversy or whatever. Actually, the reason that Kingsman: The Golden Circle cancelled its premiere was rather touching: the film opted to cut out its premiere and donate the money that would have been spent on the premiere to help with the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The Kingsman: The Golden Circle official premiere was scheduled for New York City on Tuesday, September 12. The premiere was expected to be the same day as the upcoming hurricane relief telethon, Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief, and that didn't wash with the studio. A spokesperson for Twentieth Century Fox Films released a statement noting that the company was aware of fundraising efforts for Hurricane Harvey and that the team behind the film thought those efforts should take precedent over a movie premiere. Here's the full statement:

Given the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and the important fundraising efforts happening on Sept. 12, we have canceled that evening's planned film premiere event for Kingsman: The Golden Circle. To that end, Twentieth Century Fox Film will be donating the money budgeted for the premiere to several of the non-profit groups associated with the telethon.

Other premieres and screenings are still in the cards, and Twentieth Century Fox doesn't plan to cancel all of them, but the gesture is a nice one, nonetheless, as it's a prominent way to raise money and awareness (but surely cancelling an event is no easy task, either). The London premiere of Kingsman: The Golden Circle will still happen on September 18. Other events are also moving forward.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey a lot of individuals and organizations have stepped up to help those in need, and Hollywood has been no exception. If you'd like to know more about what celebrities have donated to the cause, here's our guide to some of those charitable celebrities.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be hitting theaters later this month, with a U.S. release on September 22. It's not the only big film out this month either, as this weekend also sees the release of the highly anticipated film IT, based on the Stephen King novel. After a few slow months at the movies, we can't wait to see a few bigger and shinier movies heading into theaters. To see what else is going to be released soon, take a look at our full premiere schedule, or at least out September picks. You can also catch Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief on September 12 at 8 p.m. ET, on ABC, CBS, CMT, NBC and Fox.
